POLICE SHOOT CLAY MAN TO DEATH WHILE SERVING FEDERAL WARRANT

(06/26/2013)
A Clay County man was shot to death by West Virginia State Police at 6 a. m. Wednesday when officers were serving a federal search warrant.

State Police say the man pointed a rifle at the officers, according to First Sgt. Michael Baylous, the state's public information officer.

Baylous said the incident was related to an on-going drug investigation.

The shooting happened outside a house at Maysel.

Sgt. Baylous said a state police special response team knocked loudly on the door but there was no response and the troopers forced their way into the residence.

That's when they saw the man pointing a rifle and shot him, police say.

The man died at the scene.

His name has not been released.
