NEW ARNOLDSBURG SCHOOL COULD BE READY AFTER CHRISTMAS BREAK

(06/25/2013)
Calhoun County Schools Superintendent, Roger Propst has issued a statement regarding construction progress of the new Arnoldsburg Elementary School:

I am pleased to report that construction of the new Arnoldsburg Elementary School is progressing well, and is on schedule to meet its expected completion date of early December 2013.

The masonry exterior "shell" of the building is now complete, all concrete floors are completed, early phases of plumbing and electrical installed, and installation of roofing is now in full swing.

Application of the brick exterior has begun on the rear wall of the gymnasium and will continue until the entire building exterior is brick-faced, expected to take about eight weeks. The general contractor is BBL Construction of Charleston, West Virginia, and Columbus, Ohio.

The new school is being constructed immediately adjacent to the current Arnoldsburg School on land purchased from the Powell estate, and the building is safely above the 100 year flood plain. Current plans are for students to occupy the new facility upon return from the Christmas/New Year holiday break.

Some features of the new facility are a Commons Area which will also serve as the dining area, similar to Calhoun Middle/High School; a gymnasium for physical education classes that will include bleachers on one side of the basketball court. A design added by input from faculty at the school is an opening in the interior wall of the gym to the music room that can be used as a stage for productions the school is well known for.

The school will also have a "Media Center" and computer lab. Buses will unload students on the west end of the building where students will enter the school under a covered canopy; parental drop-off of students will be in the front of the building where parents will have a convenient loop to exit. Additional updates will be issued as construction progresses.
