Sophia M. Shawver Smith, 95, of Parkersburg

Sophia M. Shawver Smith, 95, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away on June 19, 2013, at Ohio Valley Health Care.

She was born November 3, 1917, in Minnora, W.Va., a daughter of the late Homer H. and Lula Wright Shawver.

Sophia was a graduate of St. Marys High School with the class of 1936. She was employed at the American Viscose Company, the Seventh Street IGA, was a cook for the Wood County School System and was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was active in her church and was a charter member of Broadway Nazarene Church.

She is survived by two sons, David E. (Janet) Smith of Parkersburg and Paul W. (Linda) Smith of Washington, W.Va.; one sister, Mildred Eifler of Marietta, Ohio; two grandchildren, Terri (Jeff) Hall and Sherri (Chris) Sams; four great-grandchildren, Adam and Andrea Hall, Hunter (Tracey) Sams and Taylor Sams; one great-great-grandson, Brantley Sams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Smith whom she married December 24, 1938; sisters, Irene George Caplinger, Edna Mullins, Audra Clem, Janette Byram, and Georgia Kaufman; and brothers, Homer Jr., Blaine and Robert Shawver.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22 at Broadway Church of the Nazarene, south Parkersburg with Harold Eaton and Linda Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg and one hour prior to the services at the church.
