GOV. TOMBLIN SEEKING FEMA ASSISTANCE FOR ROANE FLOOD VICTIMS

(06/17/2013)
After Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin toured Roane County Friday, and is asking for FEMA assistance to those who received damage, although he is concerned if the dollar amount reaches FEMA's threshold.

At least 100 homes in Spencer received significant damage, and many more around the county.

Meanwhile, the National Guard and a large number of community volunteers are working at the clean-up, with mud and debris scattered most everywhere.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross have been working around the clock to make sure people have cleaning supplies, plenty of food and a place to stay.

A portion of Route 119 is also damaged with a lane slipped into the creek. Road crews will be out Monday fixing it.

The flood exceeded historic records.
