AMERICAN FLAG PROJECT LAUNCHED FOR GRANTSVILLE

Calhoun County is richly blessed with a legacy of men and women that have valiantly served in the Armed Forces. Proudly displayed on the Veteran's wall in our local Senior Center, are the photos of past and present service men and women. Close to 300 are represented there, and that is only a mere fraction of the actual account of veterans from Calhoun.

As we approach the Fourth of July and watch Memorial Day, Armed Forces Day, and even Veterans' Day become another day on the calendar, there needs to be an awakening in our community. Celebration and jubilation are lacking. We have forgotten that freedom is never free. We have closed our eyes to the sacrifices that made us "One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

In an effort to reclaim some of our patriotism and to serve as a visual reminder of our veterans, our current servicemen and women, and the nation that we need to strive to be, we are launching a flag campaign for the courthouse light posts.

We have several sites in town that proudly display Old Glory, and we thank those organizations and offices for their patriotism. Yet, we need more of this passion in our town. Our hope is to place a flag on each of the lampposts around the courthouse. This is a small endeavor, but it is a great start.
