The Creston Area Neighborhood Watch is raffling off a quilt made by Bessie Arthur. Tickets for the very pretty quilt can be obtained from any neighborhood watch member.

Lots of folks were in for Decoration Day. With the late spring the peonies were in their prime to place on graves for those who decorate with real flowers.

Phyllis N. Watkins, 84, passed away May 25th in Parkersburg. She was a daughter of Preacher John & Clarinda (Clara) Icenoggle Collins. Her sister, Nellie Irene Wines died on February 21. The Icenoggles formerly lived up around the river from Creston.

Rev. Keith Belt filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. church.

The "Ground Hog folks" had a sing, cake walk, etc. Saturday at the church & cemetery situate high atop the hill at the head of Pete's Run Saturday with fine music and lots of visiting with friends, kinfolk, etc. Reggie Grimmett, a group of young Wirt County bluegrass singers & the Johnny Staats gang were among those providing lots of easy listening. Several wanted to know when they would be having such an event again.

A little bit of hay has been cut and it is all prime & ready but the rain and wet fields has held up most operations. The ends of the low water crossing on Straight Creek were washed out again although few streams were more than bank full. In spite of Albert Gore Jr.'s claims of "global warming " or "climate change" there was frost reported locally in some spots. This is, of course, two weeks later than what was formerly the date to set out tomato plants, etc without fear of frost & freeze. The green weenies now say that they are perplexed that for the last 17 years there has been no warming.

A tree fell across the power line just up from the mouth of Pete's Run Thursday afternoon and the outage was reported. With the new system one cannot talk to a human but the machine said power would be restored by 8 P. M. Since there was no way to tell the company the exact location of the problem it took until 4 A. M. to get power restored and the equipment was still on the scene after 7 A. M. If the PSC (Public Service Commission) really represented the state's taxpayers [& electric customers] this situation would be quickly resolved but, of course, with crony capitalism, national socialism & such the "government regulators" look after their corporate 'charges'.

Mr. & Mrs. C. P. Marks, J. P. & A. C. Marks, Cap'n & Mrs. Spock were visiting Mr. & Mrs. R. P. Marks & daughter Rylynn up in Ohio. The Spocks were also calling on Boots & Delores Griffin.

The IRS scandal of "special treatment" for groups that promoted the U. S. Constitution, lower taxes, American exceptionalism continues to grow. Religious groups were asked to send in the contents of their prayers, among other things & one of the biggies plead "the fifth" before Congress. While some still wait for their IRS rulings (after 3 years) the Big Eared One's half brother got his group approved in just over a week. Now the woman who was in charge of all this was promoted to oversee Obamacare. Next year a new form concerning one's health & the income of all family members must be sent to IRS & it is now known that they share ALL information to certain other agencies and outside groups. Interesting that the union that covers IRS & Treasury workers is demanding to be excluded from Obamacare. The cutbacks in medicare mandated are already kicking in for those who have major health problems.

Cap'n & Mrs. Eddie Norman were among those calling on Renee Gray.

Robbie Lynch who now lives in New Orleans is visiting Dorothy Lynch.

Several have noted that this spring there have been more whip-poor-wills heard than for some years. Also there are lots of turkey buzzards &, apparently, the invasive black buzzards have been dealt with properly. Some new fawns have been seen in the Creston area.
