Billy Ray Boggs, 84 - Spencer

Billy Ray Boggs, 84, of Spencer, died at 10:48 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013 at his home.

He was born March 28, 1929 at Looneyville, a son of the late Milton and Bessie Bell Carpenter Boggs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Mae Wilson Boggs; two grandchildren, Bobby Greene and Keith Boggs; one step great grandchild, Zechariah Mace; three sisters and five brothers.

Billy was a retired employee of the Bell Atlantic Phone Company and a member of the CWA. He attended the Bays Chapel Church and was an Army veteran. Also, he enjoyed gardening, hunting and the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Groves-Boggs of Spencer; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Nancy Boggs of Shenandoah Junction, Michael and Julie Boggs of Titusville, FL and James and Joella Boggs of Dunkirk, MD; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ronnie Carpenter of Toccoa, GA; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Becky Groves of Parkersburg and Spencer, Jim and Susan Groves of Charleston, Joe and Linda Groves of Hopkinsville, KY, Jason Groves and Wendy Smith of Spencer; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Joe Reynolds of Stephens City, VA and Kim and Mike Gibson of Bluefield; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Michael Richardson officiating. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday.

The family requests memorial donations to either Housecalls Hospice, Parkersburg or the Bays Chapel Church, c/o First Neighborhood Bank, Spencer.
