Donzel Lee Wallbrown, 89 - Spencer

Donzel Lee Wallbrown, 89, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away on May 1, 2013 at home.

He was born September 17, 1923 in Canton, Ohio, a son of the late Kenna and Icy Hall Walbrown. He was a Christian and a farmer and was formerly employed at Monarch Rubber Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II where he was in Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, Ardennes, and Rhineland and was present at the capture of the Ludendoroff Bridge at Remagen, Germany. Donzel was presented the Insignia of Chevalier de la Legion d' Honneur, Frances highest award and was also a member of Spencer V.F.W. Post 5783.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Velma McCauley Walbrown; three daughters, Donna Walbrown of Spencer, Debbie (Greg) Burdette of Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Joyce (Dick) Reed, also of Spencer; two sons, Gary (Darla) Walbrown of Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Mike (Cindy) Walbrown of Oak Hill, West Virginia; a son-in-law, George Dudding of Spencer; a brother, Denver Wallbrown of Spencer; a sister, Eleanor (Jack) Miller of Spencer; grandchildren, Sarah Beth, Matthew, Rachael, Christopher, Jennifer, John, Alexander, and Andrew; two step-grandchildren, Erin and Cory; six great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Donzel was preceded in death by three daughters, Sharon and Kathy Walbrown and Pamela Dudding; and two brothers, Eugene and Richard Walbrown.

A service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer with Rev. Danny Whited officiating. Military honors will also be presented at the funeral home. Visiting is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
