WAITMAN STUMP - Akron, Ohio

Waitman Stump, born July 26, 1912, went home to be with the Lord August 2, 2002.

He was the youngest child of Lorenzo Thomas "Doud" Stump and Dora Gainer Stump. His parents and five siblings: Lorena S. Kelly, Jesse Taylor Stump, Dorfetta S. Hathaway, Arldia S. Kelly and Mattie S. Thompson, preceded him in death.

Waitman graduated Calhoun County High School in 1932. He worked for Lyle Ayers at the ESSO Bridge Filling Station in Grantsville before going into the U.S. Navy in World War II. He married Nell Natalie Smith on December 25, 1941. In the Navy, he served honorably on the USS Indiana Battleship as Fireman First Class. Returning home, he used his GI Bill in a farming program on his father's farm on Phillips Run, near Grantsville, the Calhoun County Seat.

He later moved to Akron, OH where he was employed in home building and renovation until his retirement. He is survived by his widow Nell and two daughters, Sharon Stump of Akron OH and Patricia Stump of Houston, TX, and by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A faithful husband and devoted father, Waitman was a believer in Jesus Christ as his personal savior and studied his Bible closely. He was a loved and respected member of the Hillwood Chapel in Akron, OH.

His remains were cremated and the ashes will be scattered on the farm in Grantsville, WV where he grew up. Waitman will be remembered as a loving family man. Those who knew him will not soon forget his gracious smile and gentle manner. A celebration of his life will take place at Hillwood Chapel in Akron, Ohio on August 24, 2002 at 2:00 pm
