SEAT BELT USE PRIMARY OFFENSE PASSES LEGISLATURE

(04/12/2013)
A law to make seat belt usage has passed the WV legislature.

The seat belt law has been a secondary offense, meaning that an officer had to stop a vehicle for another reason.

The bill passed in the Senate on a 24 to 10 vote, after passing in the House.

The fine for failing to wear a seat belt would be $25 with no court costs or points on driver's license.

The bill will go to Governor Tomblin, who will decide to sign the bill into law.
