(04/06/2013)

Two 18-year-olds, a male and female, received injures when their vehicle lost control in a sharp turn on State Rt. 16 at Minnora, about one-half mile north of the Upper West Fork VFD station.

Reports by responders indicated the couple received chemical burns from what they described as "a possible explosion or spill" of ingredients used in a shake and bake meth lab.

Reports indicated that at least one of the victims received some severe chemical burns.

Sources at the scene said it was a strange incident.

The auto rolled-over on its top.

One victim was taken to Minnie Hamilton Health System by Calhoun EMS and was reportedly life-flighted to a medical center. The other victim was taken to Roane General Hospital by Calhoun EMS.

Responders indicated the victims had chemical burns primarily on the back of their bodies, although one reportedly had burns to the hand or arms.

Sources at the scene indicated other occupants of the vehicle likely fled the scene.

The West Virginia State Police responded to the scene and are investigating the incident.

The names of the victims have not been released.

The Upper West Fork VFD dispatched units to the incident.
