The "Stock the Pond" fundraiser goal has been met. Enough donations have been received to stock the Calhoun County Park pond with trout.

The first people with an opportunity to fish the pond will be the youth of the county. The hope is to have a youth day in the future after it is stocked.

It would be nice to offer ribbons, trophies, or other prizes for the kids. Kid fishing times will be divided up according to ages. Any adult helping a youth fish will need a valid license and trout stamps are also needed.

I would like to thank Minnie Hamilton, Ray Holbert, and all others who donated to make this happen. Look forward for info about stocking and the opening youth day.

The trout will be purchased from Indian Lake Fisheries of Clendenin. These trout are larger than those stocked by the state. It is hopeful that some brood trout will be included. These are trout that reach 20 inches and 3-5 pounds.

Fishing is an activity enjoyed thousands of West Virginian. Youth benefit greatly by having a safe, entertaining form of recreation that can be shared as a family. Fishing opportunities have been proven to stimulate local economies.
