Ermal May Parsons, 99 - Gassaway

Ermal May Parsons, age 99, of Gassaway, West Virginia, formally of Normantown, West Virginia, departed this life at 7:05 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at Braxton County Memorial Hospital, Gassaway, WV, following a brief illness.

Born January 16, 1914 in Gilmer County, WV, daughter of the late Fred and Martha Smith Winemiller.

On September 9, 1939 she was united in marriage to Discoe J. Parsons in Catlettsburg KY, he preceded her in death on March 27, 1986.

Ermal was a cook at Oak Grove School and worked 10 years at the Rubber Fabricators Inc. in Grantsville, West Virginia. She was the oldest member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ermal also enjoyed sewing, making quilts for the family, and did a lot of traveling with the Gilmer County Senior Center.

Surviving are two sons, Richard (Velma) Parsons of Normantown, Robert (Lena) Parsons of Gassaway; and one sister, Athalee Caldwell of Katy, Texas.

Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Ronda (John) Irwin of Bridgeport WV, Rick (Donna) Parsons of Normantown, Regina (Bobby) Beall of Normantown, Eric Parsons of Weston WV; 6 great grandchildren, Bryant and Josh Irwin of Bridgeport, Jodie Parsons, Kourtney Beall, Bradley Beall of Normantown, and Maddysen Parsons of Weston; 4 step grandchildren, Betty LaMarr, Brian (Cindy) Hall, Jay Hall, Christina Hall of Gassaway; 10 step great grandchildren; and 1 sister-in-law, Pearl Winemiller of Ripley WV.

Along with her parents and husband, Ermal was preceded in death by 1 son, Ronald Parsons; 1 grandson, Rodney Wayne "Jackie" Parsons; 2 brothers, Hayward and Earnest Winemiller; and 1 sister, Onalee Winemiller.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Normantown WV at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 with Elder George Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Normantown. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
