Herbert D. Shimer, 84, formerly of Munday

Herbert D. Shimer, 84, formerly of Munday, died in Florida, February 5, 2013. He was born June 28, 1928, in Munday, to the late L.H. "Harley" and Louvisa (Fox) Shimer.

Herbert received a bachelor's degree from Glenville State College, where he played football, and a master's degree from West Virginia University. After college he was employed as a teacher, coach and principal at Clay County High School until his retirement in 1973. He then was employed as an administrator for Majestic Mining and Pioneer Construction located in Widen.

Herbert is survived by his three daughters, Stephanie (Bryan) Montgomery of Glenville, Stacey (Paul) Catherwood of Riverview, Fla., and Clorinda (Marsha) Reed of Charleston; brother, Donald (Pat) Shimer of Sun City West, Ariz.; three sisters, Madeline (Denzil) Prather of Belpre, Ohio, Mavadelle (Bill) Lieving of Walker and Barbara (Harold) Butcher of Sandusky, Ohio; two grandchildren, R. Sean Hunt and Brittany D. Myers; one great-grandchild, Dakota Hunt; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald; a sister-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.

Cremains will be interred at Elk Hills Memorial Park following the service.
