LOCAL THEATRE ARTS PROGRAM ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR "THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE" |

2012 season's production of "Once Upon A Mattress" Mid-Ohio Valley high school and early college aged young adults are invited to audition on April 13 and 14, 2013 for the local Theatre de Jeunesse theatre arts program's production of The Pirates of Penzance. Captain Jack Sparrow has nothing on the Pirate King in the Tony Award-winning musical comedy. This wacky and irreverent farce spins a hilarious tale of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers, ditsy and dewy-eyed daughters and an eccentric Major-General, all morally bound to the often-ridiculous dictates of honor and duty. Those preferring technical theatre can register instead to join the technical crew. The selected technical crew will assist the Technical Director in the design and creation of the set, props, lights, and sound for the production. They will also provide the backstage and light rail support for the production as: stage crew, stage manager, assistant stage manager, and lightboard, sound, and followspot operators. Technical interns interested in Costuming will assist the Costumers in the research, design, and construction of costumes. Music interns will accompany the Musical Director during performances. Guest professional artists will present workshops for cast and crew in their area of the arts throughout the rehearsal process. Performances are scheduled for July 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 2013 at the Friederich Theater on the campus of Marietta College. Pre-audition Open Houses provide interested young people and/or their parents/guardians the opportunity to meet the staff, ask questions about the program and the production, and review the audition music, readings, and choreography, as well as register for the technical crew. They are scheduled for Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 1:00 - 3:00 at the Hermann Fine Arts Center, 500 Butler Street in Marietta and Sunday, March 31, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 at the Parkersburg Academy, 1800 38th Street in Parkersburg. Auditions will be held at the same two locations and are scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 1:00 - 4:00 in Marietta and Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 2:00 - 5:00 in Parkersburg.
