CALHOUN HAS NEW WVU EXTENSION AGENT - Mullins Wants To Make A Difference |

 Calhoun County has a new WVU Extension Agent. Jamie Mullins of Glenville began work as the new agent in February. Mullins will be serving as a Community Economic Workforce Development Agent with responsibilities in 4-H, Community Development, CEOS, Families and Health, and other related areas. "I look forward to getting to know the people of Calhoun County, and their needs," said Mullins. "It is only by understanding the wishes of this community that I can use my position to make a lasting impact in the area." Mullins, originally of Clay County, transplanted to Glenville in 2005 when she began studying at Glenville State College. As a student, Mullins was actively involved in campus government, sorority life, Student Support Services, and other programs focused on advancement and community service. In 2010, Mullins graduated from GSC with a pair of Bachelor degrees - English and History/Political Science. Still uncertain of exactly what she wanted to do with her life, Mullins started an MBA in the summer of 2010. "I really had no direction at that time, but I knew education and versatility would be important wherever I ended up," she said. Mullins, by chance, in 2011 came across an advertisement for the WVU Extension Gilmer County Program Assistant position and was employed. "I had joined 4-H later in my youth, and the programs of WVU Extension had always held a special place in my heart," Mullins said. Mullins completed her MBA. With experience at WVU Extension, a multipurpose educational background, and a passion for advancement, Mullins began to realize that WVU Extension was a perfect arena for her. "I felt like everything that had happened in the past few years had led me to that point," said Mullins. "I know I am meant to make a difference working for WVU Extension, and Calhoun is a great place to start." She will be working full-time in the Calhoun office. Mullins enjoys photography, writing, football, and exercising. She currently writes sports for The Glenville Democrat/Pathfinder. When she is not working, Mullins enjoys spending her days with her son, Jonavan. Currently, she is in the process of assisting with 4-H Camp Planning, Energy Express Site Coordination, and other Extension activities. In the near future, Mullins hopes to develop a needs assessment for the community to further develop the role she can play in Calhoun County.
