KANAWHA CO. MURDER - A man is dead and his long-time friend has been charged in his murder after a shooting in Rand Thursday.

Tremale Straughter, has been charged with first degree murder after Donovan "Don Don" Taylor, 29, was found shot to death inside of a car. Both men have extensive criminal histories.

A witness told deputies he saw Straughter stick an AK-47 out of a car window and start shooting Taylor. Police say 25 bullet holes were found in the car.

"At this time, there are no other suspects," said Rutherford. The motive is unclear.

Taylor, at one point, had been charged with murder when he was a juvenile.

Tremale Straughter has been in and out of jail for years with dozens of charges, everything from assault, to brandishing a deadly weapon, and battery.

MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED - A man wanted in connection with a murder in Wyoming County was caught and arrested in Mingo County Wednesday.

John New, 20, of Brier Creek, was arrested and has been charged with first-degree murder, grand larceny and daytime robbery.

Elaine Birchfield, 60, of Mill Creek, was found dead in her home Tuesday night.

Police say New was inside Birchfield's house when she came home Tuesday evening and interrupted a robbery. New then fled in her truck.

Birchfield was a bus driver for Wyoming County Schools.

GUN BROUGHT TO SCHOOL - A Huntington High School student is being held on charges of bringing a gun into the school.

The 15-year-old boy was on suspension when he brought the handgun into the school last week.

A Cabell County Schools official says that in large schools, every staff member doesn't always know who is suspended. The school has about 1,600 students.

HUNTINGTON ROBBERY - An arrest warrant has been issued for one of the men sought in a robbery at a CVS Pharmacy in Huntington.

Jeremy Johnson, 30, is wanted on a first-degree robbery charge. He has a long criminal history.

Lt. John Williams says the men walked into the store and handed the cashier a note demanding money, stating they had a gun.

The cashier handed them an unknown amount of money from a cash drawer.
