Seventeen straight points. Twenty-one turnovers. Nine blocked shots. The numbers tell the story.

South Harrison scored 17 straight points in the third quarter. Calhoun committed 21 turnovers. South Harrison blocked nine shots. Any of the three could signal a South Harrison win over Calhoun County. Monday night all three happened and the Hawks posted a 55-40 victory over the Red Devils.

But the biggest of all was the 17 straight points.

Calhoun had just scored to cut a four-point (24-20) halftime lead to two when the wheels - all of them - came off Calhoun's wagon. With Logan Kerby getting eight of his game high 18 points and four of his game high six blocks South Harrison scored and scored and scored some more before a Ricky Hall free with 1:22 remaining in the period stopped the bleeding. But by then there was not much blood left.

Calhoun had played well in the first quarter and trailed only 12-11. The Red Devils didn't lose much ground in the second and was behind by a mere four at intermission. And the fourth quarter was a draw, 14-14. But, oh, the third quarter and that 17-point run … Luke Moore led 2-17 Calhoun with nine points as no Red Devil hit double figures.

He was backed by Tyler Gerwig with seven while Ryan Slider, Sam Brady and Trent Phillips had five apiece. Ricky Hall had four, Ethyn Miller three and Lucas Wilson two. Luke Sheldon and Derek Dawson both played but did not score.

Zak Wentz also hit double figures for 9-9 South Harrison with 15. Dylan Smith added eight, Luke Gaines six and Hunter Hitt and Corey Messenger four each.

The Hawks also won the junior varsity game although they had a much harder time doing it was the Red Devils battled them to a 28-23 score in a game that really wasn't decided until the last few seconds.

It didn't look like it would be much of game however as the Hawks outscored Calhoun 10-5 in the first quarter and 4-1 in the second for a 14-6 halftime lead.

But the second half was a different story as Calhoun finally started hitting some of those point blank shots they had been missing earlier to make things close.

After a 6-6 draw in the third quarter the Red Devils found their stride in the fourth, outscoring the Hawks 11-8 to cut into the lead before running out of time.

One killer for Calhoun was the inability to hit from the free throw line as it was 3-11.

Sheldon and Nick Watkins led Calhoun with six apiece while Miller added five and Brady four. Dave Workman had two while Dakota Jarvis, Riley Cain, MyKia Holbert and Austin Gribble played but did not score. Tyler Jarrett scored 10 points for game honors for South Harrison. Austin Barker added seven, Smith and Cody Rey four each and Chase Killian three.

Calhoun returns to action with a doubleheader at home to Doddridge tonight. The junior varsity game starts at 5:45 with the varsity game to follow.
