VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN PROGRAM COULD BE CUT - Fleagle, Advocates Meet With Sen. Rockefeller

(02/12/2013)

Sen. Jay Rockefeller and Lori Fleagle

Calhoun domestic violence advocate Lori Fleagle was among 11 who met with Sen. Jay Rockefeller advocating for the continuance of federal money for Violence Against Women (Act), which had helped thousands of West Virginians.

Fleagle was careful to note that domestic violence transcends socio-economic status, saying it could happen to anyone. Fleagle works as a Calhoun County advocate for the Parkersburg Family Crisis Intervention Center.

"We're going backwards if we don't get this money, not forwards," Fleagle said. "We will have wasted every dime that we have put into VAWA up to this point if we don't go forward."
