ROANE MAN WHO WORKED ON MANHATTAN PROJECT DIES

A Roane County man who had a long military and government intelligence career, working on the Manhattan Project in World War II using his advanced mathematical skills, has died.

Nathan Marion Surface, 86, of Left Hand, died February 6, after spending his retirement years in Roane County.

A graveside burial will be conducted Sunday in the Clover Cemetery at 1 p.m. with the John H. Taylor Funeral Home of Spencer in charge.
