Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Simmons, 68 - Newark

(02/05/2013)
Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Simmons, 68 of Newark, WV, finished her life's journey on Tuesday February 5, 2013, at the Marietta Memorial Hospital in the Hospice Center. She is now walking the streets of Gold with her Lord that she served and loved so much.

Kathy was a member of the Newark Baptist Church, and sang in the church choir for many years. She was a loving wife of 49 years to Gary L. Simmons, whom she married on June 30th, 1963. She was a wonderful mom to Brenda (Trevor) Mullins of Leesburg, Virginia, and Tim (Melissa) Simmons of Parkersburg, and grandma to Kelsey Cockerhan.

Kathy graduated from Harrisville High School with the class of 1962. She was a typist for the F B I, for a while, but her greatest accomplishments was being a wife and mother. She loved to read and crochet as her hobbies, and taking care of her cat "Denny". She was a wonderful cook and a loving friend to all that knew her. She had a quiet disposition but could really boast out the words of a song when she needed to while singing in the choir.

She was born in Calhoun County the daughter of the late Doy Sr. and Ethel (Smith) Richards.

She is survived by her husband, her children and her granddaughter, her brothers, Doy (Lois Anne) Richards, Jr. of Canada, Don (Mary Lou) Richards, Robert Richards all of Smithville WV and Michial (Joanne) Richards of Cleveland, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. Cauley and Dr. Dennis, and the hospice staff of the 2nd floor of Marietta Memorial Hospital.

Services for Kathy will be Thursday February 7th, 2013 at the Newark Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be Wednesday February 6th, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth.
