CALHOUN MIDDLE DROPS PAIR TO WIRT

Calhoun Middle School dug itself into a first half hole that it was not able to get out of as Wirt Middle School took a 34-21 victory Monday night.

The White Tigers jumped to a 10-4 first quarter lead and pushed it out to 17-8 at halftime before Calhoun rallied in the second half. The Red Devils found their offense after intermission and came up with six points in the third and seven in the fourth. At the same time Wirt was getting nine and eight to seal the victory.

The Red Devils were playing short-handed thanks to illness and grades but still made Wirt work for the victory.

Chris Thornton led Calhoun with 11 points. He was followed by Dave Jones with six and Jerry Jones and Sonny Wilson with two each. Ben Frederick, Trevor Carder and Christopher Kirkland all played but did not score.

TJ Conley took game honors for with with 14 points. He was backed by Drew Adams with eight. Dylan Heiney added five, Josh Ellison four, Levi McVey three and Jon Thompson two.

Levi Mason, Aaron Peterman and Jon Henry all played but did not score. The White Tigers also won the B game by a 38-8 margin.

Casey Stanley led the White Tigers with 11 while Jimmy Fletcher added six, Zak Adams five, Shayne Boyce four and Dustyn Holbert, Trevor Hutchinson, Troy Craft, Cody Fouty, Nelson Stutler and Logan Richards had two each. Seth Suslick played but did not score. Buck Marks led Calhoun with three points while Levi Gregory and Jaron Hall scored two each and Jakiah Hickman one. Johnny Watkins, Brady Fox, Aaron West, Nolan Nelson, Ryan Miliron and Damon West all played but did not score.

Calhoun returns to action Thursday with a home game against Walton.
