The Emerald Ash Borers have really moved into Calhoun and trees are getting attacked in every corner of the county, says Forrester Russ Richardson.

The borer was first discovered in West Virginia in Calhoun County in 2010.

The borer was first discovered near Detroit, Michigan, in 2002. The borer attacks all 22 species of North American ash and kills virtually all of the trees it infests.

"Any white ash tree that is being visited by woodpeckers this winter and is showing lots of rough bark is probably infested," Richardson said.

The bark of untold thousands of white ash trees in central West Virginia are starting to look like woodpeckers enjoyed an Emerald Ash Borer feast.

"That will not end until the last ash tree in north America dies," concluded Richardson.
