Leonard Vawn Montgomery, 84 - Glenville

Family and friends celebrate the life of Leonard Vawn Montgomery of Glenville WV, who was born on July 31, 1928, and went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2013, at the age of 84.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 38 wonderful years, Johan Montgomery. Leonard had 5 children, Michael Montgomery of Charleston WV, Diane Hardin and husband Danny of Scottsville KY, Brad Lay and wife Barbara of Grantsville WV, Barbara Copley and husband Fred of Cincinnati OH, and Barry Lay and wife Karen of Glenville. His grandchildren that he so loved and enjoyed are Corie Grogg, Alex Lay, Amanda Lay, Ryan Copley, Chris Copley, Sabrina Ingram, Sherri Guy, and Steve Jones. Leonard's great-grandchildren are, Lex Grogg, Autumn Hardin, and Anthony Hardin, Ty Ingram, Audrey Ingram, Mackenzie Copley.

Leonard had 5 wonderful loving sisters and brothers, Jo Ann and Noel Roberts of Glenville, Dean and Bum Bailey of Weston WV, Vick and Nancy Montgomery of Weston WV, Bob and Helen Montgomery of Weston, and Dave and Bobbie Montgomery of Glenville. Leonard was preceded in death by his father and mother, Elwin and Edra Montgomery.

So many treasured memories of family times, golf outings, bowling, family reunions, work on the farm and sharing of family stories would always bring a bright smile to Leonard's face. Leonard loved people and enjoyed every single minute of life, always looking on the bright side of everything.

Leonard had experienced a stroke on March 8, 2011, and with the help of his wife, children, his sister and brothers, family and friends, the great care-givers, and loving dog Gracie, was able to quickly return home and enjoy life to its fullest. Leonard would be so honored, humbled and thankful for all the support, kindness and love that has been showered upon him during this challenge. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his sister Jo Ann Roberts, Karen Lay, Tyler, and Jeff Steele for always being there in a moments notice and for all their extra efforts. Our thanks to Hospice as well.

Leonard was retired from Dow Chemical Company, and enjoyed after retirement business venture of M&R Insurance with his brother-in-law Noel Roberts. Leonard also served on the Department of Agriculture, Gilmer-Calhoun County FSA Committee for several years.

Leonard lives in the hearts of so many, and a wonderful impact he has left in this world. We love you and will miss you dearly; my Husband, my Father, my Grandfather, my Brother, my Friend. Thank you for your life.

Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2013 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery, Glenville. Friends may call 4-8 p.m., Sunday at the Mortuary. Family request in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice Care of Burnsville, PO Box 323, Burnsville, WV 26625.
