MURDER SUSPECT KILLED BY POLICE - A man wanted in connection with two Logan murders earlier this week is dead after police say he pulled out a rifle at the end of a high-speed chase.

State Police Capt. D.M. Nelson said, "At the end of the pursuit Mr. Dempsey pulled his vehicle off and then exited the vehicle. When he did so he had a rifle and, when he got out of the vehicle, he pointed the rifle at the troopers at which time they responded to that threat."

Police had been looking for John Dempsey, 37, since Tuesday when 88-year-old Grover Morrison was found dead in his home.

On Thursday, Freddie Williams of the Taplin area also was murdered and State Police say they believe Dempsey was involved in that murder.

Dempsey stole a woman's car and that's when he led police on the high-speed chase.
