Anthony Aviles scored 25 points, including 12 in a row at one point in the first half, to lead Gilmer County to a 66-40 victory over visiting Calhoun County Thursday night.

The game was close for a while until Aviles got rolling late in the first quarter as he led Gilmer to a 10-point, 19-9, edge at the end of one.

The Titan sharpshooter kept the pressure on in the second period as Gilmer, 5-3, outscored Calhoun 19-11 to build an 18-point, 38-20, halftime advantage.

After that Calhoun made a small run in the third - outscoring Gilmer 11-10 - but fell on hard times as the result of a lot of missed shots and turnovers to allow Gilmer pull away with an 18-9 advantage in the final period.

Despite the individual brilliance of Aviles the Titans did have some consistent offense with Austin Ratliff getting 12, Austin Cunningham nine, Nathan Allison seven, Mitchell Hickman six and Colby Cunningham and Zach Chapman two apiece.

For Calhoun, 1-9, Ryan Slider led the way with 14 points to go along with his nine rebounds, six blocks, three assists and three steals. He was the only Red Devil to hit double figures as Calhoun had a poor shooting night.

Ricky Hall added eight points and 10 rebounds. Tyler Gerwig also had eight points while coming off the bench to slow Aviles down before fouling out in the fourth period.

Lucas Wilson had five while Luke Moore added three and Mason Sheldon two. Trent Phillips, Derek Dawson and Sam Brady all played but did not score.

Nick Watkins had a career-high eight points in the reserve game but he was the only Red Devil to score in a 62-8 loss.

Colby Cunningham led Gilmer with 11 while Cory Grogg chipped in with 10.

Calhoun will try to get back on the winning side of the ledger Tuesday night when it travels to South Harrison for a doubleheader.
