SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS BY MAIL ENDS MARCH 1 - Many WV Recpients Ignoring Change

(02/13/2013)
More than 63,000 Social Security and Supplementary Security Income recipients in West Virginia are still receiving benefit checks in the mail.

That will change March 01, 2013, when the federal government switches all benefit and non-tax government payments to electronic payments.

Federal data show West Virginia has the highest percentage of Social Security and SSI recipients who receive paper checks at 12 percent.

West Virginia AARP director Tom Hunter says many older residents have resisted the switch to electronic payments.

Social Security has made a push for several months regarding the change, with many recipients not responding.

AARP is making their own push to notify people of the change.
