Macel R. Carr, 77 - Sand Fork

Macel R. Carr age 77 of Sand Fork, West Virginia, departed this life at 6:05 a.m. Tuesday January 8, 2013 at the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, West Virginia, following an extended illness.

She was born June 15, 1935 in Gilmer County, West Virginia, daughter of the late Foster C. and Pauline Radcliff Batten.

Macel was an Avon salesperson for over 40 years and had just placed an order the 1st of the week. She was employed by the West Central Community Action for 24 years. She played an instrumental part and was her husband Carl's right hand man in Carr's Excavating Co. Macel loved sewing, quilting, doing puzzles, and especially the enjoyment of hearing Megan and Mandy affectionately referring to their Granny Bird. She was also a member of the Sand Fork Baptist Church.

On July 29, 1955 she was united in marriage to Carl Carr, who preceded her in death on June 29, 2009.

Surviving is one daughter, Cheryl Carr of Morgantown, West Virginia, and one son, Richard A. "Rick" Carr and wife Terry of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters, Megan Carr and Mandy Parfitt of Cape Coral, Florida; and one great grandson, Alexander Parfitt; 5 brothers and one sister, Lytle Batten of Buckhannon, West Virginia, Warner Batten of Bedford, Ohio, Lorn Batten of Stow, Ohio, Ronnie Batten of Mineral Wells, West Virginia, Gary Batten of Jane Lew, West Virginia, and Marsha Skolnik of Bedford, Ohio.

Along with her parents and husband, Macel was preceded in death by one brother Eugene Batten.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. Glenville, West Virginia, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday January 12, 2013 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Fork Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Mortuary. Family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Gilmer County Senior Citizens.
