INITIATIVE TO APPROVE SUNDAY HUNTING IN CALHOUN

(01/17/2013)
By Cory Boothe

The time for Sunday hunting in Calhoun County is now.

Currently, "blue laws," created in the 1700's to promote church attendance, block hunters from being afield on Sundays in West Virginia.

Thirty-nine of 50 states have no ban or restrictions on Sunday hunting.

These states experience thriving wildlife populations while not having any noticeable effects on church attendance.

The citizens of Calhoun County can have Sunday hunting put on the ballot for the spring 2014 election.

To do this, a petition of 5% of the registered voters in Calhoun County must be submitted to the county commission. This is approximately 275 signatures.

If you are willing to help establish a petition in Calhoun County, please contact me.

Petitions will be placed in participating establishments.

Only registered, resident voters of Calhoun County can sign the petition.
