Orel R. "Pete" Raines, 85 - Walton

Orel R. "Pete" Raines, 85, of Walton WV, died December 26, 2012 at home. He was born August 19, 1927 at Vicars, the son of Lenox Blackburn and Cora Etta Rhodes Raines.

Pete was a graduate of Walton High School and Morris Harvey College and a retired teacher and principal of Roane County Schools. He was co-owner of the former Walton Shopping Center and a lifelong farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Hughes Raines, son Christopher Paul Raines, granddaughter Katie Wolfe, and siblings Herbert, Howard, Opal, Earl, Freeda, Ruth, Raymond, Faye, and Romma.

Pete is survived by his children: Jeanette (Rick) Atkinson of Reedy, Linda Raines Torre of Charleston, Philip (Tammy) of Walton, Sheila (Rick) Ashley of Scott Depot, Jim (Amy) of Spencer, and Dave (Jana) of St. Albans; sisters: Eloise Raines of St. Albans and Mabel Thomas Romine of Gnadenhutten, OH; 13 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; mother-in-law Thelma Hughes of Spencer; special friends Phyllis and Vicki; and faithful companion Willie.

Service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer with Rev. Jerry Board officiating. Burial will be in the Ferrell Cemetery on Vicars Ridge. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
