Somebody once said the first thing you do if you want to get out of a hole is to quit digging.

Unfortunately the Calhoun Middle School basketball team did not stop digging until after the first quarter was over in a 38-25 loss to Wirt County Thursday night.

Wirt jumped on the Red Devils early and took a 23-2 lead after one quarter as T.J. Conley pumped in 14 of his game high 16 points.

After that Calhoun played catch up and by the time the game was over had cut the 21-point margin to 13.

Jackson Taylor led the 0-2 Red Devils with 11 points while Zach Yanero added 10. Jerry Jones added three for the Red Devils and Chris Thornto had two.

Brent Anderson, Ben Fredrick, Sonny Wilson, Junior Hall and Christopher Kirkland all played but did not score.

Wirt County also won the B game by a 39-10 margin.

Shayne Boyce led With with 10.

Trevor Carter led Calhoun with four while Brady Fox, Levi Gregory and Aron West added two each.

Buck Marks, Darren Westfall, Jaron Hall, Nolan Nelson, Jakiah Hickman, John Watkins, Ryan Milliorn and Josh Schoolcraft all played but did not score.

Calhoun returns to action Tuesday night when it travels to Spencer Middle School.
