WV VETS CAN HAVE FREE DRIVERS LICENSE DESIGNATION

(12/01/2012)
State officials are urging veterans to showcase their service to the country on their drivers' licenses.

West Virginia began offering a veteran designation on state drivers' licenses last month.

West Virginia Department of Veteran's Assistance says many businesses offer veteran discounts but many veterans had no way of confirming their service.

Having it on a drivers' license is a convenient way to take advantage of those benefits. To obtain the veteran designation, applicants need to apply at their local Department of Motor Vehicle regional office and bring in their DD 214, other form of military identification or their motor vehicle registration card showing a current military license plate. They'll also need to bring applicable licensing documentation.

There is no charge for the designation.
