UNEMPLOYMENT FALLS IN 33 WV COUNTIES

Unemployment rates fell in 33 of West Virginia's 55 counties in October.

WorkForce West Virginia said Friday that 17 counties reported jobless rate increases, while rates were unchanged in five counties. Monongalia County has the lowest rate in the state at 4.3%. Clay County's 13.5% rate is the highest.

West Virginia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 7.5%, down one-tenth of a percentage point from September's rate.

Calhoun 8.7%; Wirt 9.9%; Roane/Braxton 9.5%; Ritchie/Gilmer 6.6%.

Unemployment rates are based on people making or receiving unemployment benefits.
