RICHARDS BOND REVOKED - Placed In Regional Jail, Ohio Officials Complained About Bonding

(07/24/2002)
A Calhoun County man John M. Richards, 48, is in Central Regional Jail after his $50,000 bond was revoked. Prosecutor Tony Morgan made a motion during a hearing in Calhoun Magistrate Rick Postalwait's office Monday.

Washington County, Ohio officials complained about the multiple sex offender being released on bond, but Postalwait said "Everyone here knows how the court system works," indicating release on bond is part of that system, under an assumption "People are innocent until proven guilty." Washington County officials said Richards brandished a weapon and attempted to abduct a woman and her daughter at a Reno, Ohio car wash.

He was picked-up in Calhoun on July 12.

Postalwait said it was part of due process, indicating the revocation was "part of the process."

Family members posted a cash amount for the $50,000 bond.

Richards has a history of offenses in the region, including Wirt and Roane County incidents, relating to abduction and indecent exposure.
