R. Scott Fluharty, 96, of Parkersburg

R. Scott Fluharty, 96, of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.

He was born in Nobe, W.Va., a son of the late A.T. and Mollie (Ferrell) Fluharty.

He graduated from Parkersburg High School, where he was a member of the football team. He was a little league coach. He retired from DuPont and then became a Renaissance Man. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Shriners, and the Masons. Scott enjoyed traveling, camping , attending Mountaineer games, and walking his dog in the City Park.

He is survived by two sons Robert Fluharty (Patricia) of Parkersburg and Michael Fluharty of Silver Springs, Md.; grandchildren, Kelly Fluharty (Lloyd Farinash), Erin Fluharty (Michael Dech), Kerry Fluharty (her fiance Drew Dupont), Amanda Tucci (Brian) , and Megan Fluharty; Amanda and Megan's mother, Alberta Fluharty of Severna Park, Md.; eight great grandchildren, Riley, Mackenzie, Ethan, Katie, Colin, Izzy, Lily, and Sammie; and his canine companion, Buster.

In additiion to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice (Hill) Fluharty; two brothers, Denver and Roy Fluharty; a sister, Pearl Pollard; an infant sister; and his canine companion Amy.

Services will be Saturday, 3 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Richard McClure officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 6-8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the service.
