FORMER ROANE NATIVE MAJOR HOWELL PASSES

A Roane County native, Maj. (retied) Albert Daniel Howell, 91, of Ravenswood, has passed.

He was raised in Morgantown and attended Staunton Military Academy and the University of Virginia before joining the United States Army in 1942.

Howell served during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, before retiring with over 24 years of military service. Between enlistments, he graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in International Law. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.

He was born in Spencer in 1921, a son of the late Dr. William Herbert and Beulah (White) Howell. His brother, Dr. William H. Howell, Jr., a sister, Rose Arbogast, and a grandson, Corbin D. O'Brien also preceded him in death.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Milhoan Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Dee Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in the Howell Cemetery.
