Helen Lois Bramer Jones, 91 - Elkins

Helen Lois Bramer Jones age 91 of Elkins, West Virginia, formerly of Kanawha Drive Community, Gilmer County, West Virginia, departed this life at 1:30 a.m., Tuesday October 30, 2012 in the Valentine's Personal Care Home in Elkins, WV.

Born May 29, 1921 in Harrison County, West Virginia, daughter of the late Okey J. and Annabelle Shaver Bramer.

Helen retired from the Gilmer County Board of Education in the school system Food Service Division. She was instrumental in introducing a satellite program for one central hot lunch center, and were then distributed out to surrounding High Schools. This was for the hot part of the meal only. Other parts were prepared at the respected schools. This was the 1st program of its kind implemented in the United States.

She was extremely active in 4-H where she was a 4-H leader for several years. Helen enjoyed quilting, canning, being a homemaker, and doing quilling art (ancient art form). Her work has been displayed and sold at Tamarak in southern West Virginia. Helen was a member of the Presbyterian Women, where she was a member of the Glenville Presbyterian Church for over 52 years. She left school when she was 17 to get married, although she earned her GED and at age 50 started college classes at Glenville State College where she would now be a junior. She took advantage of all the years she could.

On June 22, 1938 she was united in marriage to Hershall Jones who survives at the same personal care home in Elkins.

Surviving is one daughter and three sons, Dianna L. Ryan and husband Roy of Elkins, Douglas L. Jones and wife Winnie of Newark, Ohio, Dexter L. Jones and wife Carolyn of Beckley, West Virginia, and Dennis L. Jones and wife Sharon of Spring, Texas; two sisters also survive, Mildred Winters of Bonita, California, and Martha Hammitt of Clarksburg, West Virginia; ten grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Along with her parents, Helen was preceded in death by one son, Okey Lawson; three brothers, Okey, Wade, and Roy Bramer; and two sisters, Nellie Williams and Mariolive Cummings.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. Glenville, WV at 11:00 a.m. Monday November 5, 2012 with Rev. Charles Ringe and Rev. Joyce Ann Fast officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery, Glenville WV. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Mortuary. Contributions may be made to the Gilmer County Senior Citizens.
