CALHOUN ESCAPES MAJOR SNOWFALL - 14% Without Power, Outages High In Neighboring Counties

Calhoun slipped by the major snowfall experience in many areas of the Mountain State, with wet and heavy snow up to 6 inches in parts of the county.

The mountains of WV received up to two feet of snow.

Over a quarter million state residents are without power Tuesday night. The county has yet to experience major power outages like neighbors to the east, with 605 affected Tuesday evening (4,330 total customers) or 14%.

Calhoun Control (911) is reporting few problems in the county.

Some counties like Lewis, Randolph, Tucker, Preston, and Pendleton have over 90% without power Tuesday night.

Braxton County has 78% without power, or 6,693.

Clay County has 61% without power, or 1,779.

Gilmer County has 21%, or 865.

Roane County has 19%, or 1,139.

Ritchie has 10%, or 673.

Wirt has 1%, or 45.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has declared a state of emergency.
