(10/12/2012)
Chester Leo Jones, 82, of Grantsville, WV died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Charleston Area Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was born on August 8, 1930, a son of Howard Jones and Bertha Deems Jones Wilson.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice M. "Sue" Peggs Kennedy Richards Jones; his sister, Freda Mae Twoey of Ohio; children, Ed (Willa Jo) Jones of Phillipi WV, Roger (Susie) Jones of Vinton OH, Pam (Bob) White of Clarksburg WV, Shannon (Greg) Williams of Davisville WV, Errol (Dot) Kennedy of Grantsville, and Shelby (Delbert) McDonald of Grantsville; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Willard, Benny, Harley, Troy, Clifford, Everett, and Franklin; sisters, Hetty Hester Jones,  Ruth Elder, Virgie Groggs Southwell and Mildred Gray Howell; and daughter-in-law Connie Sayre Jones.

Chester retired from Glenville State College Maintenance Dept. after nearly three decades. He loved camping, fishing and hunting.  Two of his favorite fishing spots were in Diana and Bergoo.  He loved Bluegrass music and played the mandolin alongside his brothers and many friends. Because of their infatuation for their music they were locally known as "those Jones boys."  Whenever he went camping, he usually found someone who played bluegrass too.  He was always very amused and proud to learn one of the young ones had taken up something to pluck, and encouraged even the littlest ones to try their hand to play while at his knee.

May he rest in peace.

Funeral services will be held Sunday October 14, 2012, 2:00 pm at the Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville with Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Burial will follow in the Saunders Cemetery at Big Springs. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 pm on Saturday.
