LOCAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY GETS $60,000 - Wirt-Calhoun Project Seeking Job Opportunities

(07/20/2002)
The Wirt-Calhoun economic development project, known as the Little Kanawha Area Development Corporation, has received a development grant for $60,000 from the State of West Virginia. The grant was doubled because of the two-county venture.

Development agencies in rural counties where unemployment is severely high, are being challenged to create job opportunities, particularly when access is difficult and infrastructure has not been developed.

Furthermore, regional jobs are leaving the area to locate in other countries and regions.

Diane Ludwig, Executive Director of the LKADC, says the agency has achieved CDC certification, following a rigorous process.

The grant money is used for general program operations to further local economic development efforts.

Ludwig is operating office space in both counties.
