KANAWHA MURDER - Police are still trying to figure out what caused a Sissonville man to fatally shoot another man at his home.

Kanawha County sheriff's deputies say they found Dale Thomas Newhouse, 55, waiting outside for police after allegedly doing the shooting.

James "Jamie" Bryan Shaffer, 41, of Charleston, was inside with a fatal single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Also inside was a 32-year-old woman.

According to a criminal complaint, the emergency call to 911 was made by Shaffer, the victim, who advised that Newhouse had just shot him.

Shaffer told 911 that Newhouse was standing over him with a 9 mm handgun, according to the criminal complaint.

Shaffer was taken to CAMC General Hospital, but died from his wounds.

Newhouse was charged with first-degree murder and ordered held without bail in South Central Regional Jail.

Police said Newhouse was previously arrested and charged with malicious wounding in the shooting of a woman in December 2008.
