Glenville, WV - The Glenville State College fishing team of Brandon Abbott and Nick Lambert has qualified for the National Guard FLW College Fishing Conference Championship to be held September 13-15 on Philpott Lake in Martinsville, Virginia. The tournament will be televised nationwide on the NBC Sports Network in December.

The two members of the GSC Bass Club advanced to the Conference Championship by finishing third in a qualifying tournament on the Ohio River in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Their third place finish also earned the GSC Bass Club a $1,000 prize.

Abbott of Spencer (Roane County), West Virginia is a junior majoring in Natural Resource Management with a concentration in Landman Technology. His grandfather introduced him to fishing when he was young. "We really did not expect to advance to the Conference Championship. The fishing was really hard, and we lost a couple of fish early, so were struggling until Nick caught a couple late in the day that put us over the top," said Abbott.

Lambert of Oceana (Wyoming County), West Virginia is also a junior majoring in Natural Resource Management with a concentration in Landman Technology. "I started tournament fishing when I was just eleven years old. I have been lucky enough to win several tournaments including two West Virginia Junior State Championships. Fishing has always been something that I do with my family," he said.

The duo has already spent a day at Lake Philpott scouting out where the want to fish during the Conference Championship. "I think the fishing will be tough. A lot of where we fish will depend on the weather conditions which determines how the fish are feeding" said Lambert.

If they win at the conference championship, the club will receive a new Ranger 177TR bass boat valued at $25,000. The top five teams in the conference championship will also advance to the 2013 national championship.

"We are going to fish hard and do our best, but we have to be lucky as well. It should be fun," said Abbott.
