MEMORIAL SERVICE SATURDAY FOR TRIPLE MURDER VICTIMS - Officials Declined To Release Names

A memorial service for three Doddridge County murder victims will be held Saturday at Salem International University at 2 p.m.

Allegedly shot to death by son Joseph Spencer, a junior at Doddridge Co. High School, the service will be held for his father, Frederick A. Spencer III, 49, his mother, Dixie Spencer, 47, a Ritchie County teacher, and his 9-year-old sister, Patience.

While media outlets have confirmed the names of the victims and the alleged shooter from other sources, the Doddridge sheriff's department says they will not release the names or other information about the shooting.

Deputy C.W. Modesitt of the Doddridge County Sheriff's Department issued a press release saying a juvenile will be charged with homicide in the triple murder.

The grandfather of the teen who allegedly gunned down his parents and sister earlier this week, confirmed the identities of those involved in the tragic slayings.

A press release regarding the shootings said, "Be advised that the Doddridge County Sheriff's Department, with assistance from the West Virginia State Police are thoroughly and exhaustively collecting and analyzing every piece of information and evidence linked to this crime."

The Parkersburg News has filed a freedom of information request regarding the incident, indicating that the names of victims of such tragedies should be available to the communities.

Doddridge and Ritchie County school systems are assiting students and staff in dealing with grief.
