A period of silence was called before the game to recognize and remember the fallen WV State Policemen, including Eric Workman who had been stationed in Calhoun County.

Every time Sherman hit Calhoun Friday night, Calhoun hit back. Harder.

The Red Devils fended off every Tide attack and came away with a 46-26 victory at Mount Zion for their second win of the season doubling last season's total.

Sherman, 0-2, got on the board 11 seconds into the game when Aaron Lowe took the opening kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown.

Last season that may have thrown the Red Devils off stride but this year all it did was fire them up.

Calhoun took the kickoff and quickly drove through the Tide despite a couple of untimely penalties, which, like last year, may have thrown the Red Devils off stride. Instead quarterback Logan Moore capped off the drive with a two yard touchdown run. It was his only touchdown run of the night however it was far from being his only highlight as he carried the ball 25 times for 269 yards while throwing a touchdown pass.

He also had a stalwart defensive play late in the first quarter when he hit Justin Clark at the line of scrimmage and stopped him cold on a fourth-and-one play at the Calhoun six.

That tackle essentially ended the Tides' offense until the fourth quarter when they put together a sustained drive against the Calhoun reserves.

Following Moore's stop of Clark the Red Devils quickly went in for another score as tailback Trent Phillips scored on a two-yard run.

Five minutes later the Red Devils scored again when Moore teamed up with Joseph Richards for a 25-yard touchdown giving Calhoun a 24-6 halftime lead.

Early in the second half the Red Devils made a couple of errors - two fumbles - and Sherman capitalized with a short drive ending with a four-yard John Pauley touchdown making the score 24-14.

In the past this could have thrown Calhoun off stride.

Friday night it didn't.

The Red Devils scored before the Sherman fans were through cheering for their own touchdown when Kirkland Allen returned the kickoff 75 yards for the score and a 32-14 lead.

Calhoun shoved the lead out to 38-14 shortly thereafter as freshman tailback Cole Ritchie scored from two yards out.

That's when Sherman took its final shot.

On the ensuing kickoff Lowe broke loose and outran the Calhoun defense for a 75 yard touchdown to make it 38-20.

But once again Calhoun hit back as it took the ball and slowly moved it down the field before Ritchie scored his second touchdown - this one from four yards out - to put the game out of range and bring in the Red Devil reserves.

Sherman made one last march against this bunch and Lowe caught a 27 yard scoring pass from Branden Harrah to set the final score.

Calhoun dominated on both sides of the ball as its offense rolled for 473 yards and 23 first downs while holding Sherman to 182 yards total offense (with a big chunk coming in the last drive against the reserves) and 10 first downs.

Calhoun, 2-0, returns to action Friday night when it is host to Doddridge, 2-0, in the 2012 Homecoming Game.
