PARKERSBURG'S BUREAU OF PUBLIC DEBT WILL ADD 450 JOBS

(08/30/2012)
West Virginia officials say the U.S. Treasury Department is adding 450 jobs at the Bureau of Public Debt in Parkersburg.

U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller said Wednesday the announcement also includes assurances the current 1,850 jobs will be retained at the bureau.

The new jobs will be added over the next several years, to include accounting, financial and information technology positions.

Rockefeller said he had urged Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to keep the jobs in Parkersburg amid talk of a consolidation.

He says the Bureau of Public Debt brings an annual infusion of nearly $186 million to the local economy.

The bureau handles customer service, accounting and trust funds.
