James Starcher, 91, of Nebo, West Virginia, died July 13, 2002 at his home following a long illness.

He was born in Clay County, a son of the late John G. and Elizabeth Tanner Starcher. He was a Christian, a retired farmer and former employee of the West Virginia Department of Highways.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Jessie Metheney Starcher; six daughters, Azell Lucille King and her fiancee, Don Blaser of Creston, Ohio; Janet Sue Cunningham and her husband Dale of Big Springs, WV; Sandra Kay Douglas and her husband Sammy of Clendenin, WV; Linda Lou Cottrell and her husband, Lewis of Nebo, WV; Brenda Lee Burnside and her husband Elijah of Leetonia, Ohio and Charolette Ann Cadle and her husband Rocky of Chloe, WV

Three sons, Charles Daris Starcher and his wife Glenna of Reedy, WV; Carl Gene Starcher of Cortland, Ohio and Cecil Allen (Bunker) Starcher and his wife, Connie of Smithville, Ohio.

Three sisters, Hilda Douglas of Westfield Center, Ohio; Madge Lamb of St. Albans, WV and Gladys Dague of Florida.

Four brothers, Dennis Starcher of Ridgeville, Ohio; Shirley Starcher of Nebo; Corbet Starcher of Creston, Ohio; Roscoe Starcher of Seville, Ohio.

Twenty-one grandchildren and thirty-nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Starcher was preceded in death by sons, Ernie, Ermon and Danny Starcher; sisters, Etta Houghton, Myrtle Tanner, Rouie Watkins and Iva Drake; brothers, Denver, Harlan, Orville and Andy Starcher; two grandsons, Michael Starcher and James Dale Cunningham and granddaughter, Jackie Cottrell

Funeral services will be held Wednesday (7/17/2002) at 11 a.m. at the Unity Gospel Tabernacle at Nebo, WV with the Rev. Darrell Mollohan officiating. Interment will be in Coen Cemetery. Friends may call at Stump Funeral Home in Arnoldsburg, WV from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
