Janet Jewell Monroe Skipper, 77 - formerly of Spencer

Janet Jewell Monroe Skipper, age 77 years and four days, of Somerset, KY, formerly of Spencer, West Virginia, departed this life August 21, 2012, at the Somerwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.

She was born to the late Silas and Jessie Campbell Monroe on August 17, 1935 in Looneyville WV. She was raised in Looneyville and graduated from Spencer High School. She was a Baptist.

Janet was united in marriage to Bobby McKelly Skipper on November 28, 1957 in Spencer. They were married 45 years before his death in 2003.

From this union, they were blessed with two children, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cindy Skipper of Logan OH; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Alley of Somerset KY; grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Skipper of Logan OH, Heather Marie Skipper of Thurston OH, Sarah Alice Nicely, Emily Jewell and (Jordon) Nicholas and Megan Elizabeth Alley all of Somerset KY; nine great grandchildren, Dustin Ray Johnson, Kayla Marie Willis and Andrew Cain Hanna all of Logan OH, Kimberly Paige Hartley, Brenen Paul Hartley and Aleena Lee Hartley all of Thurston OH; Hannah Jewell Nicely, Sean McKelly Shuman and Jessie Lee Anne Nicholas all of Somerst KY.

She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Grover Franklin and Mary Lea Monroe of Cleveland OH and her brother-in-law, Lowell Ray Cook of Pinch WV.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Susie Alice Cook and a still born great granddaughter, Destiny Renee Skipper.

Special thanks to the staff at Somerwoods for the wonderful care she received and to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the Epling Chapel Baptist Church, Looneyville, with the Rev. Ron Fisher officiating. Burial will be in the Epling Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
