Howard B. Funk, 94 - formerly of Spencer

Howard B. Funk, 94, of Castlewood, VA, formerly of Spencer, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012, at the home of his daughter, Karen Bradley of Castlewood.

He was born September 20, 1917, at Richardson, Calhoun County, a son of the late Fredrick David and Ona Mae Sommerville Funk. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Goldie, Glada, Myrtle and Justine; and one brother, Fred, Jr.

Mr. Funk was a retired owner and operator of a local service station. He was also a licensed real estate agent and the owner - operator of a second hand furniture and antiques store. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

In addition to his daughter, Karen, survivors include his wife, Betty J. Funk of Castlewood; son, Edward Brinton Funk of Spencer; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 22 at 3:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. David Carpenter officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the Jackson Cemetery, Looneyville. Friends may call at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Mary, Kristi, Pam and the other staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of Virginia, for their care of Mr. Funk during his illness.
