GIVE BLOOD TODAY: RED CROSS SAYS BLOOD SUPPLY AT 15 YEAR LOW - Blood Drive Thursday At First Baptist Church, $500 Drawing Announced

(08/16/2012)
Blood supplies at the American Red Cross are at a 15-year low nationwide and locally, and the agency is urging people to donate as soon as possible.

The American Red Cross is offering a weekly drawing for a $500 gift card through the month of August. You have to be a donor to be eligible.

The Red Cross is asking for public support to reverse the decline in donations and ensure an adequate blood supply.

The blood drive is today the First Baptist Church in Grantsville, noon to 6 p.m.

- If at least three additional donors gave blood at every Red Cross blood drive throughout August - above what's currently expected - they would be able to meet hospital needs.

- All blood types are needed to ensure an adequate blood supply is available.

- Blood donors with types O negative, O positive, A negative or B negative are especially encouraged to give at this time.
