FLASHBACK: 'FAIRY DANCING CIRCLES' AT COUNTY PARK - Mushrooms Springing During Moist Summer

(05/02/2026)
Generally during the heat of summer, mushrooms slow down because of the lack of rain, but in 2012 they were springing up just about everywhere with the moist conditions.

These mushrooms, identified by Jim McCracken as "Fairy Dancing Circle," grew quickly in the
grassy area of Heritage Village at Calhoun Park, myth saying fairies flutter in circles...

It is an incredible season for chanterelle mushrooms, quite edible,
on Crummis Creek near Bear Fork Wilderness (Russ Richardson Photo)
